Kendra has been in the fitness industry for the past 12 years. She has been a conference presenter at Fitness + Education conferences throughout Western Canada and a regular presenter at the Northern Alberta Teacher’s Convention. She also had the opportunity to be a featured Fitness Expert in the October 2009 Canadian Living Magazine.
Kendra enjoys a wide range of activities to constantly push her own levels of strength and conditioning and she loves a great hot yoga class.
Kendra has had the privilege to train and work with a wide range of clients in terms of level of fitness, goals, and age. Clients that work hard and embrace new challenges and changes to reach their goals continuously inspire her. She has a passion for health and fitness, and equipping others with the education, tools and resources they need to achieve their goals.
Kendra's training philosophy involves building a strong relationship of trust, open communication, and approaching every client as a unique individual with their own individual goals. Clients have individual needs and their own vision of balance in their lives as a "whole" person. Meaning: coaching clients goes beyond just the time in the gym executing the exercise program. Their lives encompass many aspects: family, friends, work, exercise, leisure and recreation time, time for self, nutrition, rest, and managing stress and the daily demands of life. The right balance for that individual reflects how I educate, encourage and inspire them to reach their goals and find their personal balance inside and outside the gym. Then it’s about recognizing and celebrating their successes alongside them.
Kendra believes that if something isn't working, then something needs to change because we should be continually moving forward, progressing, and growing.
The biggest obstacle we face is the mind, and if we can conquer mental obstacles and develop mental strength, we will be able to do what is required physically in all areas of life.
My favourite exercise is Goblet Bulgarian Split Squat. It helps develop single-leg strength, which in turn helps to improve lower body strength and better muscle balance between in the lower body. Core stability is required to maintain balance and alignment while standing on one foot in front with back leg elevated. This is also a great hip flexor stretch for the back leg and one of the best exercises for the glutes!
I was very fortunate that Shara selected Kendra as my personal trainer. And it didn’t take long for me to see Kendra was the right person for the job. As someone who has chronic back problems Kendra’s previous experience gives her the ability to switch up my workouts on the fly as she doesn’t know from one week to the next what type of program I’ll need. She is truly committed to ensuring nothing we do will hurt me in any way. She provides me with the right balance of encouragement, support and compassion with a constant focus on improving my quality of life.
